SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a web server and conduct different tasks through a command line. The protocol is used by many expert users, as the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access could be employed for a lot of things with regards to the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the website hosting server allows for it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually everything - you can install software or restart specific services like the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed mainly with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients that permit you to employ the protocol if your computer system is using a different OS too. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though many service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting

If the cloud hosting package which you’ve selected during the signup procedure comes with SSH access as standard, you shall be able to activate this function with just a mouse click from your Hepsia Control Panel. In case you have selected a different package, the SSH access function may be included through the Upgrades menu and it will become available immediately. All the details that you need to connect will be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You could also set what password to use from the same place and you will be able to change it whenever you want. All of the commands that are allowed are listed in the Help articles that we've prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax that you need to use. An additional advantage of permitting SSH access to your account is that you shall be able to upload files through an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is offered by default with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you could add it from the hosting Control Panel if needed - even only for the current month. In either case, you could activate and de-activate the function with just one mouse click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box in which you may input the password that you would like to use, since it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you can also change it as much as you want. A complete list of the commands which can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and several instances. An extra function after SSH access is allowed will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.
